How to Qualify for X Creator Payouts in 2026

Updated: November 3, 2026

To get paid on X in 2026 you need four things: an active X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business subscription, at least 500 verified followers, at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days, and a steady habit of posting original content. That is the entry gate for X's Original Content Rewards program, which replaced Creator Revenue Sharing on September 8, 2026.

The numbers look smaller than the old 5 million impressions rule. In practice, the new rules are stricter about which impressions count. Here is what the requirements really mean, how to check where you stand, and a realistic plan to get there.

X creator payout requirements at a glance

According to X's help page, you must meet all of these when you apply:

  • Subscription: active X Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business. Premium Basic is not on the list of eligible creator tiers.
  • Followers: at least 500 verified followers. Your total follower count doesn't matter here; only followers who pay for Premium count.
  • Impressions: at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days. Impressions on your replies are excluded.
  • Content: you actively post original content.
  • Account: 18+, in a supported country, in good standing, personal or business account (political and government accounts are not eligible).

Meeting the criteria doesn't guarantee approval. X reviews applications within three business days, allows one appeal, and lets you reapply after 90 days if the appeal fails.

Why 500,000 impressions is harder than it sounds

Your analytics dashboard shows every impression. X's payout system only cares about qualified impressions: unique views from Premium subscribers, on the Home Timeline, where at least half of the post is visible on screen.

That rules out a lot of traffic you might be counting on:

  • Views from free accounts
  • The same person seeing your post again
  • Impressions on your replies
  • Views from search, profiles or other surfaces outside the Home Timeline
  • Paid, promoted or artificially generated impressions

So if your analytics say 800,000 impressions over three months, the number that matters may be a fraction of that. Check the eligibility status in Creator Studio → Original Content Rewards rather than relying on your own estimate.

What X counts as original content

X pays only for posts you actually made. Content is ineligible if it is copied from another creator, downloaded from X or another platform and reuploaded, aggregated without real new perspective, or posted with automated tools. Posts with a helpful Community Note, misleading content, and posts that only talk about monetization or maximizing payouts are also excluded.

In plain terms: your own takes, threads, videos, photos, analysis and reporting are fine. Clip accounts, meme reposts and "here are today's top 10 tweets" lists are not.

A realistic plan to reach the payout threshold

500,000 qualified impressions in 90 days works out to roughly 5,500 a day. For most new accounts that is a long road, so it helps to treat it as a 3 to 6 month project.

Step 1: Check your starting point

Open Creator Studio, look at your eligibility status, and count how many of your followers are verified. If you have 3,000 followers but only 80 verified ones, the follower gate is your real bottleneck.

Step 2: Write for the Premium users in your niche

Look at the verified accounts that already follow you or reply to you. What do they post about, and what do they share? You don't need to change your niche, but posts that give these people something useful (data, a strong opinion, a clear breakdown) are the ones that earn impressions that actually count.

Step 3: Post original work every day

Consistency matters more than volume. Two or three strong original posts a day beat ten low-effort ones. Mix formats: a thread, a short video, a chart, a reply-worthy question. X has also been paying some creators directly for video through an invite-only Video Kickstart Bonus, which tells you where the platform wants content to go.

Step 4: Write for time spent, not just likes

X has been weighting how long people actually read and watch. Posts that hold attention get more Home Timeline distribution, which is exactly where qualified impressions come from. Our breakdown of why reading time now matters on X covers this in detail, and how the Popular Posts system works explains what gets pushed to non-followers.

Step 5: Build relationships with verified accounts

Reply thoughtfully to larger verified accounts in your niche, quote-post with your own angle, and join Spaces. Replies don't count toward the impression threshold, but they are how verified users discover you and decide to follow.

Step 6: Don't beg for engagement

X's rules specifically forbid repeatedly asking people to like, reply, bookmark, follow or repost. A one-off "what do you think?" is fine. A "like and RT if you agree" on every post can cost you eligibility.

If you use an SMM panel

We run an SMM panel, so we get asked about this a lot. Here is the straight answer.

Purchased views, impressions or likes will not help you qualify for X payouts. X excludes paid and artificially generated impressions, and standard followers services don't deliver verified (Premium) followers. On top of that, X's program rules prohibit using automated tools or bots to generate engagement, and X says it may remove accounts that do. If you are already in the program or close to applying, that risk isn't worth taking.

Where X services can still make sense is outside the payout program:

  • A brand new business or product account that shouldn't look empty on launch day
  • An announcement post that needs some visible traction before organic traffic picks up
  • A scheduled Space where an audience count helps real listeners join in

If that is your use case, read the service description carefully, start with a small order, and prefer services with gradual delivery and a refill window. Our Twitter (X) SMM panel page explains each service type. Resellers can read our companion piece, X Original Content Rewards: A Reseller's Guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many followers do you need to get paid on X?

At least 500 verified followers, meaning followers who subscribe to X Premium. Your total follower count is not what X checks.

Do views from free accounts count toward the 500,000 impressions?

No. Only Home Timeline impressions from verified (Premium) users count toward eligibility, and payouts are based on unique Premium impressions with at least 50% of the post visible.

Does X Premium Basic make me eligible?

No. You need Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business. Premium Basic users can still generate qualified impressions for other creators.

How often does X pay creators?

Every two weeks, with a $30 minimum payout. You connect Stripe or an X Money account (where available) in Creator Studio and complete identity verification.

How much does X pay per 1,000 impressions?

X does not publish a fixed rate. Earnings depend on your qualified impressions, and any exact figure you see online is an estimate.

Can I buy impressions to qualify faster?

No. Paid and artificially generated impressions are excluded, and using bots or automation to generate engagement breaks the program rules.

Bottom line

X's new payout rules reward one thing: original posts that Premium users stop and read in their Home Timeline. The 500,000 number is reachable for consistent creators, but there is no shortcut to it. Build the audience first, check Creator Studio regularly, and apply when the status turns green.
